Darren,
Did you make your hard drive bootable from your 'Harddrive tools'?
Try the reset button after you see the CD32 startup anim. If it then boots from
the hard drive then reset the jumper in your SX1 to make a delay in the start
up.
 
By the way, I'm using the 'DATAFLYER XDS' with a power suppy and a 500meg
harddrive which works fine.
