Can anyone tell me how much of a speed increase you get with the
resgistered version of ShapeShifter, preferbly if you have an A1200 with
a 30 processor running at 50mhz.

I don't have an A1200 - but I do have a A3000 with a 16MHz version of
the 68030. I can tell you that once I moved the Mac disk from a FileDisk
to a DeviceDisk (you can only do so if you register), the speed upon boot
and any other disk access was orders of magnitude faster.

Visual speed compares to my wifes Performa 475 (68040 @ 25 MHz).

The program doesn't really incress in speed when it's registered, like say the
Amiga PPP program for example. What it dose is to allow you to use the Amiga
Partition or a while hard drive as a Mac Hard Drive. This is a 100 times
faster then using a devicefile with the UnRegistered version. The Mac is
always accing the HardDrive on every little thing you do, with a devicefile
it's quite SLOW. Bootup is Sooooooooo Muchhhhhh faster with a Partition
by FAR, and everything else is just like that. It's worth Registering. It's
CHEAP!

I can't tell it quantitative, but hard disk access is _*MUCH*_ faster with the
registered version - especially on large partitions.

But besides speed: Don't you think, Shapeshifter is worth registering anyway?

Good for you !! Shape shifter is probably the best shareware program on
any platform. I would not be surprised if it went commercial soon !!

Hey! You want Apple's lawyers to skin alive poor Christian? :^)
Seriously now, registering indeed does make a big difference: simply put,
from being a clever, usable hack to becoming a full-fledged, powerful
tool. Hey, a Macintosh for less than $100 Dlls.?? Now that's Moore's law
working... :^)
