shapeshifter (ss) and syquest... Please Help.

Hi all!

I am trying to use SS (reg.) to access a Mac formatted syquest EZ-135 disk
as a boot disk. The disk boots fine from a friend's amiga in SS using the same
syquest disk.

With my system, after I start SS, the syquest gets access for a moment. Then,
the mac "?" becomes a mac smiley face, and then the mac scsi director program,
Silver Lining, comes up with the correct scsi ID (2) displayed. Then the drive
continues for another second or two and then the scsi light hangs a second then goes
out. Nothing else. The MAC mode is locked, I can't quit the mac mode. If I
switch to workbench, most of its functions are hosed. I have to reboot.

This happens every time, and from the time I start SS to the time the mac part
hangs, it's about 6-7 seconds or so. One time, the MAC was lucky enough to
get far enough to print "Welcome To Macintosh". I have tried 2 different
syquest disks that worked fine booting from real macs AND one has been tried being
booted from SS on another machine and worked fine. Just not on mine.

My setup is AmigaDOS 3.1, Scsi controller is GVP series II HC+8 with the GURUROM
(without the GURUROM, the scsi board would not see the syquest through SS, only
through the Amiga side) using omniscsi.device, 2megs of 16-bit RAM, 1-meg agnus,
4-megs 32-bit ram on my 2630 acclerator (030) AND a Picasso II card with 2megs
of video RAM. Internally, on the scsi card are 2 hard drives. Externally connected
to the scsi card is the syquest EZ-135 with proper termination. I have NO problem
using this drive (or the others) from the Amiga side (except, once in a while,
when powering up the amiga, my old hard drive that is in the internal chain is
sometimes missed, but a reboot fixes that).

Last night, I replaced the 030 board with the GVP G-Force 040 33 board, and I get the
same results. I've tried various SS scsi and volume settings, and just can't
get further than Silver Lining, even though the disk boots fine from my friend's
system.

Please, does anyone have any ideas? Why would this thing hang while loading? It's not
like it can't find the drive... it DOES, but then locks up.

Anybody have similar experiences?

BTW, I've tried the stuff with booting with no extensions, and it still hangs.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also, in addition to your post, could you e-mail me a copy of your post since
I can't always get access to the news groups?

Thanks!
