If you mean that the CAPS LOCK key comes on on booting, yes, that is part of the power-up test. If it stays on, that means there is a problem in the keyboard electronics. The keyboard won't work in this case, even though the mouse and software will run. The fix depends on what is broken. If it is the keyboard itself, it will need to be replaced; that is about $60 US (depending on where you go). If you have a friend with another A500, you can swap keyboards, it is a quick way to test the problem. If the keyboard is OK, then it could be any of several chips on the motherboard. I haven't worked on the insides of an A500 in a while, but I think that one of the CIAs controls the keyboard, and they can be swapped for a quick test. Another possibility is a bad connection to the keyboard connector, or something shorting the keyboard circuits. If you pull the keyboard out, and it works, then it just might be one of these, and fixing the connection won't cost much. Good luck. -- *-__________________________ | *Starfire* | _________________________-* Jeff Jones email:jeffsj@execpc.com *//* Amiga Lives! |Born *TFG* *Starfire* Design Studio *\\//* 1985-1994, |again 1995! --
