It comes with 2MB 32bit CHIP. 2MB is the maximum amount of CHIP-RAM you can have on an AGA-machine. : 2. Can I easily upgrade the memory beyond the stock memory? There is no place for FAST-RAM on the motherboard, so you need to buy an expansioncard to get fast-RAM. There are two ways of expanding the A1200. Either to put a card in the 'trap-door', or put a card in the PCMCIA-slot. I recommend that you use the trap-door as it is 32 bit wide, while the PCMCIA is only 16bit wide. : 3. I currently have a Trumpcard 500At with a quantum 52 meg ide hd and 2 megs : of ram installed on the controller. Is it easy to hook my hard drive to : the A1200 and can I use the simms in the controller in the A1200. It depends. The A1200 has place internally for a 2.5" IDE-HD. If your HD is 3.5", you would either have to make an extension-cable and putting the HD in a box outside the A1200 or you could modify the inside of the A1200 (and thus voiding(sp?) your warranty) to make place for it. If you can use the simms in the 1200 or not, would probably depend on the design of the expansion-card you buy.. : 4. I am doing alot of programming now and I just got SAS/C 6.5 in the mail. : It takes a long time for things to compile on my A500. Will the 68020 on the : A1200 speed things up alot, as far as compilation time? It would speed it up a bit, but I don't know how much because I have never compiled anything on an A500 myself. : 5. How fast (MHz) is the A1200 with the 68020? 14 Mhz. : 6. Can I get a Math coprocessor for the A1200? Yes. There are many expansion-cards that fit in the trapdoor that have place for an FPU and Fast-RAM. Some even have faster processors, and a SCSI-port. There is also place for a FPU on the motherboard, but it must be fitted at the factory as it has to be surface-mount. It is much less hassle to buy an expansion-card which has a socket for an FPU. I think both 'Microbotics 1200z' and 'Blizzard 1200' have place for an FPU and Fast-RAM.
