Yeah, the base system, no matter how much you add to the PC (standard
SVGA video, etc) will be cheaper than the Amiga 4000/040 base system.
I recently purchased an Amiga after looking for upgrade options for both
the PC and the Mac. Believe me, I don't like spending more than I have to.
:) But to do the same with the PC that I wanted to do with a fully
equipped Amiga 4000/040 would of cost me over $10,000, which I wasn't
about to shell out. And mind you, I already have a 486DX-33. I won't
even comment on the Macintosh prices.. I'd rather get an Indy. :)
Another thing is software support. I'm doing 2-D 'cel' based and
3-D animation. To do anything of broadcast quality decency on the PC,
I would have to shell out over $5000 in software alone. The brand new
Amiga system with software and brodcast hardware (Toaster, TBC, PAR)
cost me under $8000. And the standard composite NTSC output is termendous.
