Hello, it's me again. First of all, I did NOT intend to kick of a huge discussion about sex and sexist pictures and sales. The picture I posted IS very sexy (sexistic ?), but all others were worse (either the picture of Amy herself or the background). Now, I'm looking for a better picture. If I find one, I'll put it on Aminet again. The MAIN reason for choosing this picture was, that I got 8 picture to choose from and that I wanted not to look though the net for a better one but simply start action (I'm not the type of person that argues hours on end about something. I just DO it). So if you are offended by the picture I posted, let me assure you that it is NOT the best one of Amy. Also, I heard no complaints by anyone, who has seen the Amy series by Eric. And also my deepest appologise to all areas where I posted the CFV into which is not intended for this :) Now the vote is one week old and it's time for a short review. I have collected about 20 votes so far with about 5:1 FOR Amy (remember, the vote is EMail-only ! No news). I also got some mails refering to some other mascots as: - A Corpse (Marc N. Barrett, who seems to be an AI himself... he can only negate things but not do anything on his own). - The Ball. Hmmm... I _know_ the ball. I _happily_ think back to the time when I sat in front of an A1000 and saw the Ball bouncing. TODAY, I think "great demo for the PAST". The Ball is OUT DATED. Look, we don't want nerds to buy the Amiga but masses. And masses are not really attracted by highly technical logos and optical illusions. They want something they can trust. Something simple. Something they can believe in. Something that does NOT frighten them. And something they can be proud of. Can you trust a ball ? - The Tick. Great Logo. But it's a LOGO and no MASCOT. Amiga has the reputation of a console. Everyone is menting about this. Well, so what ? Consoles sell. We don't need the reputation of an SGI or even a PC (works if you can avoid the bugs). Beeing a console, some things might become easier if the marketing can explain people that an CD32 (and A1200) ARE consoles. They are intended to be. The OTHER thing is, that they must explain, too, that the A3/4000ers are NOT. That these are good for professional work. Amiga is the only computer where playing games is cheaper than doing professional work (every read what Wing Commander needs for hardware so you can really PLAY ?) But that's not a problem of the mascot, but of marketing. I'm sure that Eric could even give Amy a more "professional" look (maybe with suit) for the high-end machines and an obsessive player for the low-end ones. So, I hope I made myself clear this time :) And to round up things, I make a second CFV. "Should Amy the Squirrel become the new mascot for Amiga ?" Please answer by EMail (the mail should reach me, if you press "Reply by Mail" on your Newsreader) to "digulla@fh-konstanz.de" and please don't waste your time answering this post :) My interest in this is twofold. First of all, I want to see, if there are any Amiga-Users out there that really care for the future of Amiga. And the next is to see if the new management of Amiga (who ever it will be) has learnt something from the past and LISTENS to us now. So even if you DON'T like the idea of a mascot, write me so I can say "there are x Amiga-users out there who CARE" (x should be large). -- Aaron "Optimizer" Digulla.
