Hi all,

Here is a copy of a message I sent to VillageTronic
suggesting a simple trick to make their 3DFX module
useable in our Zorro II machines :

============== snip ============
Men,

I am very happy that you have reached the 500
order level for the 3DFX module for the Picasso IV.

I am one of the 500.

I have ordered, even if I know that the module
"should" not (see below) be able to run in my
Zorro II A2000, because of the lack of address
space problem (ie : you mentionned that the
3D module would require 8 Mbyte address space,
and Zorro II only provides 8 MByte autoconfig
address space, out of which 4 are already ate
by the Picasso IV itself).

Since the engineering of the board is in the process,
I stronlgy suggest to you that you provide a "trick"
to make the module usable in a Zorro II machine
(which can be a towered A1200 or an A2000), since :

1 - many P-IV owners run the board in Z II mode

2 - owners of Z II P-IVs certainly do not run 68000
processor, since a 68000 is not able to run
Picasso 96 or Cybergraphix. They thus have a
real 32bit adressing-capable processor.

3 - such a trick is not that complex :
provide a lead that one has to connect to an "upper-8"
address line on his processor board, and we will be able
to map the 8 MByte address space outside of the 8 Mbyte
autoconf space provided by Zorro II !

(DCS 's Megachip runs that way to provide 2 MByte CHIP to
non-AGA machines, and that's fine ! 0nly a lead to connect
to an address bit somewhere in the machine).

Regards,
Stephane.
