HD anim player

Howdy folks,

I've done a 360 frame test render of one of my Lightwave anims, and now
that I've compiled it as an anim7, I found that the files size it 15Megs.

This poses a problem, as I only have 14 Megs of memory 8^\

I've tried VMM with no luck, so could any one advise me of the best
direct-from-disk anim players they've found.

I've tried all the ones on aminet (in the gfx/show subdir), but they all
suck pretty hard.

Hey-elp :)

Love & Life,

G.

ViewTek should do the job.

Have you tried ViewTek (in the Aminet gfx/show directory)? I don't think
it's labeled as being able to do this in the general description but I
do believe there is a flag for it in the options list. It's a relatively
decent anim player.

I tried the same with gigamem and it worked quite nice. But the anim
doesn`t get smooth ,like from real RAM.

Viewtek isn`t that bad. I plays 320x200x8 smoothly from my harddisk.
The only sucking aspect about Viewtek, is a bug which makes it play
only the first animation with loading-while-showing.
If you don`t quit Viewtek after viewing a large animation, it refuses to
play a oversizes animation.

If you're willing to generate a truly HUGE file, and have a fast HD, try out
'agmsfilm' - it generates a private animation format, which includes sound,
and spools if off the drive. Thing is, each frame is stored UNCOMPRESSED -
it leans entirely on the HD DMA for speed.

If you don't need sound, try 'biganim' - it's a pretty fast anim viewer off
of disk. At least for my stuff.

Also, of course, you might try massaging the frames to decrease the size of
each frame's delta - scale down, render with no dithering, or in a shallower
color depth - but then you *knew* that already.

I've heard MainActor Broadcast can run from HD real fast, haven't really
checked that out...
Or bite the bullet and get ScalaMM- its HD anim playback is adequate; of
course, is very dependant on HD speed, your processor, the delta values of
the anim, so you might end up with jerky playback... if you need really
smooth playback, you might try lowering resolution and antialiasing, or to
use DCTV...

Try ViewTek. It can play anims (5 or 7) from HD.

You need a reasonable HD & CPU to make this happen smoothly of course.
