Hello, i need some help. I have an A2000 with MWB and 3.1 installed.
I downloaded some cool icons from the aminet. I deceided to replace my
ramdisk.icon with a nice new cool one. The problem I have is that my
ramdisk.icon ends up being a default disk icon. When I click on the
default disk icon the nice cool one that I had snapshot in place is
inside. I cant figure out how to use the nice cool one. Any help would be
greatly apreciated.
							Sincerely

Put the "cool" icon in your path, like the S: directory, then
edit your S:user-startup with the line:
copy S:ram.info ram:disk.info

In your Starup-Sequence, just before the "LoadWB" command, insert a copy
statement (ie. copy Work:RAMicon.info to ram:Disk.info) into it so that the
icon is replaced before the Workbench is displayed. Works like a charm, as
I've been using a custom icon on mine for years.

Save the icon you wish to use as Envarc:Sys/def-ramdisk.info

Then add this to your user-startup file:

-------------------------------------------------
if exists Envarc:Sys/def_ramdisk.info
   copy Envarc:Sys/def_ramdisk.info Ram:Disk.info
endif

I'm assuming what you're trying to say is that you want your new cool
icon to appear as the Ram Disk icon every time you boot up. The problem
is that the icon has to be stored in RAM: as the file disk.info, and of
course, it goes away every time you reboot.

Solution:

Save your cool icon somewhere (I keep mine in my Icons directory with all
the other cool ones). Now add the following lines to your
startup-sequence:

copy >nil: icons:your.cool.icon ram:
rename >nil: ram:your.cool.icon ram:disk.info

Of course, icons: should be replaced with the name of your directory with
the cool icon, and your.cool.icon with the name of your icon. You
shouldn't name it disk.info, though, or it won't show up when you look at
the directory from workbench.

Do this at a point in the startup-sequence BEFORE the workbench screen
opens, and the >nil: is important!

It sounds like you're copying ramdisk.icon to the ram disk at startup
time. You're on the right track but should be doing this...

copy ramdisk.icon to RAM:disk.info

It has to be called disk.info...

OR... If you're very enthusiatic, you could install Newicons (found
on aminet) which eliminates the need to copy the icon across (OK,
deficons does this particular job) AND gives you a great new icon
system that lets you have icons of any color displayed correctly on WB
and replaces all the default icons with decent looking icons. It also
recognises many more types of file and supplies default icons for them
also.

Later,

Seany.
