Please, not 8n1, even the author (or someone pretending to be the author?)
admits the likelihood of problems between 8n1 and ppp.  I tried it, got some
very strange crashes and went back... some people swear NOEOFMODE is the issue
but I wonder.  I use Artser, pretty stable, but only marginally better than
serial.device.
