Actually, you can do this, just fine. You should establish a unique hostname for your computer. Right now, you have the utilities configured such that GRn/AmigaElm/whatever think your hostname is "dircon.co.uk" -- which isn't true. That is the name of your provider. Pick something else, such as "amiga.dircon.co.uk", it doesn't really matter too much. Then, set up your mailer to use a Reply-To header, which gets set to your POP3 mail address (henryp@dircon.co.uk, I would guess). > But i am not to worried about this as I will use my mail > (mail from Amtcp package ) program to send mail thus in a CLI -: > > 1> mail rcpt=helpdesk@dircon.co.uk > Subject:a message > <open up fave editor> > EOT > mail has been sent. > > if need be, However there is down side to this is that the return address > is not set correctly. so therefore they cannot reply without having to > *specify* the return address to reply. This is the purpose of the Reply-To header. GRn, GMail, DMail, and I _think_ (but am not sure) AmigaElm, will all ready a file named: uulib:<user>.header for headers to include into a mail. Have a single line in the file which says Reply-To: henryp@dircon.co.uk and you should be set. > But strangely I found this file in > my T: directory. SMTPd had it's port opened and was delivered this email. It checked the destination host against it's own hostname (and anything defined in HostAliases), noted that it wasn't for the local host, and returned it to SMTPSmarterHost. -- // Michael B.
