The internal image decoder seems quite a bit slower to me. On the other hand, its progressive rendering lets you get a quick idea of what coming up onto the screen although the benefits of this are greatly curtailed by the warning that aborting a progressive render in process can lead to crashes (once I just pulled the up/down scroller gadget while the IBrowse homepage image was being rendered and it totally flipped out. The graphics escaped the main rendering area and scrambled oddly outside of the IBrowse rendering area).
