I used to have them too. Then I reduced the speed on my serial-port from
57600 to 38400 bps, and then the problems were reduced dramatically.

However, when I do FTP I still have to download to RAM. Otherwise, every
time the harddrive light flashes, the Send Data LED on the modem goes
out, and this in turn causes the Receive Data LED to stop after a
moment. Then everything gets quiet for a variable period. I've recently
ordered a MultiFaceCardIII in the hope that this will help.

Any other suggestions to what I can do?

My set-up is:

A2000, ECS, 1 MB CHIP, OS 3.1
Progressive Peripherals 68040 w. 16 MB RAM
GVP Series-II w. Guru ROM v6, Quantum Lightning 740 MB
AmiTCP 4.2
PPP 1.45 reg., "serial.device 0 38400 0.0.0.0 MTU=1500 7WIRE"
