Something has been bothering me lately. Every day there's about 50 posts in this newsgroup and half are dedicated to spreading news about how bad two fine programs are. These two programs, AWeb and IBrowse, are blamed for crash after crash. This seems strange to me. Maybe it's because my work on The Amiga Internet Guide requires that I read every program doc in detail before using the programs. Maybe it's because I happen to be using OS3.1 on an AGA system. But, I rarely have either program crash. When they do, I know why - it's Microsoft's fault. They crash while trying to process Microsoft's bastard versions of GIFs and JPEGs. Even then, it isn't the programs that crash. It's the datatypes. Then I see things like the running complaint about the AWeb 'divide by 0' guru. If a program crashes immediately, wouldn't that cause even one person to read the doc and notice that there is a home page for the program. Amazingly, there's a bug fix right there on the home page - the last place anyone would look, I guess. These programs do not crash constantly when installed and set up according to all information the authors make easily available. For instance, IBrowse's authors advise you turn off the internal picture decoder and use the datatypes. Why does it then surprise people when the internet picture decoder crashes? I am not fond of people who post 'RTFM' all the time. But, I'm also not fond of people who incorrectly install a program and blame the author for stupid mistakes that could have been overcome by simply taking a couple minutes and scanning through the docs and checking out the Home Page. If you even want to go further, you can check The Amiga Internet Guide for installation techniques. That's what it is there for. And yes, I do know this will get flamed, but I've kept my mouth shut too long. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- =-=-= Email: Kainaw@cris.com -=- WWW: http://www.cris.com/~Kainaw =-=-= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- =- Amiga Internet Guide: http://www.cris.com/~Kainaw/tcp/index.shtml -= -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Very well said. IBrowse and AWeb work fine for me also. Very seldom crash.

What I'd like ?? ;-) Just do the Doc files in ASCII, keep it simple.
Re: HTML, Fortunately 'htmless.lha text/misc' can/does work well.
Re: PS, Cr**, Got HGWPost v7 (I think) installed and can view ps gfx
via MultiView, but text.....My bust not yet getting FW v4.01 to
handle ps text files well.
Could make it better by just using 'ASCII or Amigaguide'

You apparently did noyt loke very close at the Aminet dir you found Aweb in. As there is a file called awebdocsps.lha that contains the doc in postscript format. And I don't call the html docs pathetic. I kinda like the format as its portable. Contrary to AmigaGuide. I just wrote a reply to Paul, but it ended up being mailed rather than posted. So I'll repeat it here: *WHY* do you people keep telling me there is a postscript(!) when i ask about an amigaguide??? "Excuse me, i would like to buy a car - Right! Here is a cheese" ?? Or are you trying to tell me HWGPost can generate amigaguide files? Not much selling point in saying it's mui free if you have to download i don't know what to read the docs.

BTW, you can DL a separate doc in PS format from Aminet, if want it printed on paper. <tsb> cut here Syiad from Bad Nauheim, Germany Amiga ... what else? -- Computers are like airconditioned rooms, so do not open WINDOWS!
