Amigas on the Net and TV!

Some idea maybe AT and/or other Amiga programmers could look at:

Since it seems a lot of people talk about using Amigas with TVs to surf
the 'net, there are about three problems: resolution, colors and image
sizes.

First, if you're displaying text on a TV, it can't be 80-column like on
a computer. Second, some colours tend to run (try keeping RGB values
below 230 in NTSC) and finally, with 28.8 modems, some pages I know
could take near-fowever to load.

I've come up with four suggestions for this:

	1.	ColorFonts (remember them?), instead of a big graphic, create a tag
for using ColorFonts, then make 8-12 typefaces in maybe 3-4 sizes a
standard part of the Amiga. These fonts could be then loaded of the
harddrive as needed. Forget boring blacks & bles on a grey background.

	2.	IFF-ILBM support- for simple images (2-3) bitplanes these could be
smaller and de-compress faster than GIFs + JPEGs.

	3.	While we're still in 256 (or less) color, how about we try to come
up with a standard 256col palette, I know this might not work, but it
could improve the look of graphics that other-wise may be over-dithered.

	4.	Lastly- Remember sound, there must be some good uses for sound FX-
any ideas?

I'm currently planning to re-do my Web page in an effort to create a
"TV-friendly" page, remember TVs are best at displaying moving picture-
not screens of hi-res text, I think with the idea of designing for the
TV, we could have some really interesting things appearing.

Comments?

I have no colours that run on my screen, neither in PAL nor
in NTSC. You are probably using a TV modulator (either
built-in or external). I use the SCART connector and have
no such problems. I can recommend using the SCART connector.

No, no, no, don't create any more non-standard tags. There is no
need for non-standard tags. Just look at what all the Netcrap has
resulted in.

Sure, use IFF ILBM's if you want to. All graphic Amiga web browsers
support them.

Remember, though, that they'll be much larger and take very long
to load if the connection between the server and the client
is slow.

These are not problems to be solved by AT. The specs of HTML describe
a few fonts and that's it.
It makes no sense to write an AMIGA-Web Language (most Surf-Computers
are PC's or UNIX-Machines with Netscape).

Not HTML Standard, sorry.

??? No-one has a TV connected to the PC. (At least a few Amiga users.)
I think a C1084 is much better than a TV (even to watch television).

What do you mean "Not HTML Standard"? The HTML standard doesn't specify
which image file formats you are allowed to use. You can use anything you
want.

But you better use picture format that everyone can decode...
