I have Holger Kruses' Amiwin & Chimera port working well.
In the documentation, references are made towards being
able to run Netscape also. (Unix version)
I am a dummy when it comes to UNIX, so where do I begin?
Pointers to docs?
Any responses appreciated-- Lo.

Make sure the env variable DISPLAY is set to your machine's IP address. You put your IP address followed by :0.0 eg: setenv DISPLAY 123.45.678:0.0 will take care of that. Then just execute netscape. Or type netscape -d 123.45.678:0.0 on the Unix command line to execute it. If you are on a modem, prepare to wait a minute or two. Ethernet will take a few seconds. Then you will have Netscape running. -- ______________ ____________________________________ ( \ / | | _)EAN \/\/ALKER| walkers@gaia.ecs.csus.edu | | Amiga1200 | http://gaia.ecs.csus.edu/~walkers/ | |______________|____________________________________| There are no absolutes...that's the absolute truth!

Ahh, then I'm not doing anything wrong, my UNIX host just
doesn't have Netscape? Maybe I have to be in the root dir or
something?
If I find a copy of netscape and put it in my dir, would that
work? I'll experiment some more..thnks

This works fine :) but, if you have the registered version on AmiWin and
find that you use a remote program very often, you can use the GoodStuff
program - which is like ToolManager - to quickly start remote programs.
To do this, you need to edit the x11:lib/x11/fvwm/system.fvwmrc file - I
advise you make a backup copy before editing it. Down in the GoodStuff
area, add this line
*GoodStuff NetScape xmosaic.xpm Exec "" run rsh yourhost
"exec NetScape -display $HOSTDISPLAY </dedv/null >&/dev/null &"
Note: this should all be on one line! Also, replace "yourhost" with the
name of your real host. And you need the "rsh" program, which is part of
the standard AmiTCP dist. Oh, and one last thing: you need to create a
".rhosts" file in your $HOME directory to allow access.
This will add a button to the GoodStuff module (using the xmosaic icon)
that will run Netscape :)
Later,

To run UNIX Netscape on AmiWin, you need to have access to a computer running UNIX which have netscape installed. If you have this access you just run netscape like any other remote X11 app: amiga> xhost +unix.host.net amiga> telnet unix.host.net [ now you login to the Unix ] unix> setenv DISPLAY your.amiga.net:0 unix> netscape & The problem is that most people do not have access to a UNIX host these days... -- Elad Tsur
