That is, you can do "delete *.o" but not "delete *"... However, you *can* use "delete **" instead, so I guess it's not *too* bad... (People just have to be made aware doubling it works for a match-everything wildcard... yes, it's still 2 keystrokes, like #?, but both the same key, and one many people are used to...)
