SCSI HELP!!!

Hi I'm still having problems getting the CDrom I bought to work with my
A2000 :<(

Setup:
      A2000 with Derringer 030 25Mhz accel running ADOS 3.1
      Hardframe SCSI card
      MB 8Mbyte ram board
      Maxtor 345Mbytes internal SCSI
      Iomega ZIP drive

The story:

I bought a CDrom from Mac wharehouse a coupla weeks ago. When I tried to
connect it to my computer it seemed to interfere with the Maxtor. So I
spent many frustrating nights juggling SCSI id's with no luck. Then I
decided to confirm that the CDrom worked! I took it to work and connected
it to my Mac and it did :<( The good news is the drive works the bad news
is the problem is my Amiga :<(

When I connect the CDrom (SCSI ID 6 terminated) to my ZIP (SCSI ID 5
non-terminated) to my system (Maxtor internal SCSI ID 0 terminated (its on
the other side of the controller)) I get checksum problems on my boot
partition on the Maxtor! If I reboot a coupla times the Maxtor no longer
shows up in the list of bootable devices!

Anybody got any ideas????

THANKS!

Lots of ideas. What version of the HardFrame firmware are you using, for
starters?

Second the HardFrame is terminated on the controller. Have you removed those
terminators? They are immediately adjacent to the SCSI connector pins.

If you are using the (yuck) 25 pin header for the external drive are you running
25 wire cable to the drives and expecting it to work? I can virtually guarantee
that it will not with a HardFrame. That is a fast controller coupled with a
rather demanding drive, the Maxtor. Inproper bus termination and those idiot 25
wire cables *WILL* cause the kind of errors you are seeing, inspite of what some
shrill <people> in this newsgroup might say.

Here I am speaking with direct experience with the HardFrame firmware and the
care and feeding of a pair of them in my hypertrophied A2000. (At one time I had
7 peripherals on one card. *THAT* took some doing to make it work because of
bussing problems.)

Try unterminating the hard drive. I can only assume that the hardframe
has SCSI terminator resistors on it. If it does, you then have 3 sets of
resistors.

BTW, what software are you using?

  Rom v 1.9 I'm sorry I don't remember the version of RDPrep.

Yes I have because the manual says that both ends of the SCSI bus must be
  terminated and nothing else.

The Maxtor is on the 50pin cable internally the ZIP drive and the CD have
been on the 25 pin. I followed the instructions in the manual and used a
26 pin header with a 25 wire cable wired to a 25 pin connector attached to
  an expansion slot.

Should I wire things differently? Maybe take the CDrom out of its case
and install it internally on the 50 pin bus?
