In article <1992Nov19.072220.27754@Informatik.TU-Muenchen.DE>, behrenss@hphalle6.informatik.tu-muenchen.de (Soenke Behrens) says: > >Like T2 :) But really, a feature in the shell that would it make possible to >write a 'launch' command would be neat. This proposed launch command would >shut down the shell (shutting down any processes in the process :) too), >and then simply launch a program (P8 or S16, doesn't matter) with the all- >famous GQuit call. It'd be at least a way to launch P8 programs, no? > Hmmm... This could be a very not nice thing. Imagine: You have your editor backgrounded, and have been editing some source code that you haven't saved yet, and the compile is not going right. How to fix? Fire up Proterm and drop Jawaid a line, plus download the MONGO huge file that you didn't have time for yesterday. Result? BOOM Source code gone! Or, even better once 1.1 is finished, you have a terminal hanging off your GS that you are doing something (ANYTHING!) fairly important on, and you fire up Pterm on console: Same result. However, if this command could check for stopped jobs, or jobs that are running in the background, and terminate with a "There are background jobs running... Please kill them and try again", then it would be decent. >Soenke > >-- >=========================================================================== >More than silver, more than gold, I need ! behrenss@informatik. >electricity.
