On UNIX and DOS systems, fileno will return the file handle used by the low-level open(), read(), write() and close() functions to access the file. In ORCA/C, the buffered file I/O routines don't call the low-level routines, rather they call GS/OS directly. I suspect a fileno() macro would return the GS/OS file reference number, which is probably different to the one used by open(), read(), etc. -- David Empson Internet: David.Empson@bbs.actrix.gen.nz EMPSON_D@kosmos.wcc.govt.nz Snail mail: P.O.
