]No no, chmod doesn't handle that under GNO.  You want to use chtyp instead,
]as there is no excutable permission bit in the ProDOS permissions field.
]
]chtyp -lexec or chtyp -t SRC -a \$0006 will do the trick for you...

or even 

chtyp -lcc  <file>     - the original question was about creating
                                      and compiling C files
