I have a problem with Stevie, the vi clone for GNO. It doesn't seem to be able to break a line in two by inserting a newline in the middle of a line--the rest of the line from the insertion point on gets lost. To get this to happen, bring up vi and move to a full line of text. Move to somewhere in the middle of the line of text and type the following keys: i return escape ^L Once you type the ^L to redraw the screen, the remainder of the line following the inserted newline is gone! Am I doing something wrong, or has this nasty bug not been found Jeff Hartkopf University of Colorado at Boulder Internet: hartkopf@spot.colorado.edu

this key sequence is correct to insert a CR in a line in vi.

I'll try it out in Stevie tonight, very worrying, I use stevie all the time.
who ported it?, is the ported source available? - there are a few other things
I'd like to add.

I do this all the time in Stevie without a problem. Make sure you've got the very latest version from Pindarus (It's dated June or July). It could be a screen driver bug in Stevie that was fixed some time ago. -- Jawaid Bazyar | Ask me about the GNO Multitasking Environment Procyon, Inc. | for the Apple IIgs! bazyar@cs.uiuc.edu | P.O Box 620334 --Apple II Forever!-- | Littleton, CO 80162-0334 (303) 933-4649

I got the latest version just recently, thinking that might fix the problem. The executable is dated July 18, 1992, but the problem still occurs. Any other ideas? Hmmm... I'm fairly sure I've done that with stevie before and haven't
noticed any problem. I'll try it again to make sure. But you really should
be using MicroEMACS instead. ;-)

But you really should > be using MicroEMACS instead. ;-) Kind of unreasonable (not intended as a flame) ... while both emacs and vi are good editors, trying to convince people to change is generally a waste of breath. Both work, both have their strengths. Personally, I detest vi, but 'You say potato ...' --Devin glyn@cs.ualberta.ca > -- Real name: Brian Tao (Dept. of Exobiology, University of Toronto)
