Can ST use NEC Multisync?

I'd like to find out if Atari ST's can be used with monitors
from other manufacturers.  What I really want to do is use an
NEC Multisync monitor with both medium res color and high
res monochrome modes on the ST.

Has anyone done this?  What is involved?
