FS: MIDI Switching Box Plans

Have you ever fumbled around unplugging and plugging in MIDI cables from one
device to another? Here is a fast, easy way to switch MIDI cables on computers,
synthesizers, samplers, drum machines, effects boxes; any MIDI device. It
eliminates the need for swapping cables. Anyone with more than one MIDI device
should have one or more of these. Professional and home recording studios will
find this item indispensable.

The MIDI Switching Box (MSB) can be used for a number of varied and useful
applications, from a simple MIDI on-off switch, to a switching component in an
advanced MIDI studio. You will find many uses for this simple and economical
device. We use them all the time to quickly reconfigure MIDI devices in the
studio.

While you can buy a MIDI Thru Box that will split a MIDI output signal into four
or more outputs, it will NOT reroute data from one place to another. You need a
switch box for this.

So, if you want to reroute MIDI data from one device to another, you can:

1) Get up, reach around your equipment, and unplug and plug your cables,
2) Buy an expensive electronic switcher,
OR
3) Build the MSB, and reroute your MIDI data stream simply by throwing a switch.

Swapping cable hassles are history!

Here are some things you can do with the MSB:
1. Switch a slave keyboard (or any MIDI device) on and off.
2. Switch a master keyboard to either of two slave keyboards/modules.
3. Switch a master keyboard to either a slave keyboard or sequencer/computer.
4. Switch a slave keyboard to either a master keyboard or sequencer/computer.
5. Switch a sequencer/computer to receive MIDI from either of two keyboards.
6. Design any other configuration, depending on your needs.

Assembly is straightforward, just a few tools and soldering iron, and should
take less than an hour. All part are available at your local electronics store
for under $10.

Complete building instructions, parts list, and studio configuration diagrams
included.
