/* ---------- "Mega-ST pricing" ---------- */
According to my sources, there are two reasons behind the "high" pricing
of the Mega-ST series:
1-megabit dynamic ram chips are used exclusively in the -2 and -4
models and due to various reasons these chips have not decreased
significantly in price this year
the dealer margin is being raised (similar to what Commodore is doing
with the Amiga 2000)
------------------------------------------
One reason prices on the megabit chips have remained fairly
stable and in some cases increased slightly is due to a new
agreement which has recently taken effect between the US and
Japan which prevents some of the dumping of chips in US market
at lower than manufactured costs...since most of the meg-chips
are today manufactured oversea, the prices didn't drop as fast
as most expected. Demand for the chips is not overly high
yet anyway. The Mega-ST's are the first "mass-market type"
personal computer to even use the chips as standard as far as
I am aware...
