I received some more new ROMs from Atari yesterday. Happy to report that
they appear to work just fine!
The first things I noticed were a *substantial* decrease in time required
to boot, because the time it takes the machine to clear out memory is now
much less. Hmm, makes that extra meg seem much more tempting ;-)
Overall disk performance seems to have a good boost. I ran TINYPICS from
my Supra disk, and it was noticeably faster at switching pictures. The only
copy protected thing I currently own is Chessmaster 2000, and I haven't
given that a whirl as yet.
Thanks to Allan Pratt and Neil Harris for their comments and help, and to
the Net.people who confirmed my guesses about the ROM placement.
