Almost everything about creating the NEWDESK.INF you can read in a
file SURVIVAL.TXT by Thomas J Hopper (on many ftp servers).

NEWDESK.INF should not be bigger than 4096 bytes (for TOS >2.0).
Problem with memory begins after crossing approximately 3900bytes.
To avoid this are two ways: to allocate memory, or (the better - I
think so), to prepare some different desktops according to the job I
have to do (for DTP, comms, music and so on).
You mast remember that number of icons on a desktop is limitated to
36 (?).
On main desktop you can place icons representing dedicated desktops
(DTP, comms, music and so on).
Clicking on these icons you can change desktops in a fast way.

To arrange so comfortable environment you need a program
LOAD_INF.PRG, to be find on: ftp.cs.tu-berlin.de (130.149.144.4),
directory /pub/atari/, on other ftp servers also - I believe.
How to install this programm you can find in the SURVIVAL.TXT.
