List of possible bugs discovered in ICE so far:
===============================================
- Fix PPP packet bug where carrier drops.
- ICE does not exit straight away when selecting Quit in the menu if
the various windows are iconified.
- News window blanks out after dialer window has closed.
From Boris:
1) PPP no longer works for me. Fortunately my provider has slip as well,
which does work with the same program just fine. The provider, which thank
god is free, assures me that ppp is OK. Unfortunately, when I downloaded,
I lost the last version, so can't go back and check it. It loads ok, but
when I kick news, I get two bombs, and it dies, although I can still access
the menus and quit.
Reply: Problem here is system is trying to kick in link quality monitoring
system and is not negotiating. Fix will be done.
2) SNOW works only in the sense that it comes up everytime I load ICE,
but other than looking pretty, does absolutely nothing! If I change speeds
with it, I get the old speed. If I start with another speed, it stays there
after it runs.
Reply: SNOW.PRG must sit in /FRONDS/ directory and run from desktop, then
options set and then the config saved. Will then initilise properly. Program
must be called SNOW.PRG.
3) Why does news always give "duplicate file" messages? Is it because of GMT
vs. DST in the system? I notice I am the only beta tester in the states,
and thus not on GMT. (Oops, one of two)
Reply: Can you clarify exactly where the error occurs and give examples. Need
to know: load in GROUPS or GROUPS.DAT file and record nine digit time number
against newsgroup. Access news and after finishing go back into file and get
the revised number. Record time of access in GMT and send to Dave.
From Colin:
1) All versions: IP Checksum error on connecting.
Reply: Drop DTE speed from 115200 to 57600.
2) All versions: : TCP Checksum errors during news downloads, often
stalling completely after up to 16 errors reported.
Reply: DTE speed should solve this.
3) Mail still inconsistent - often only accesses first item, and often
downloads none. I'm rather loathe to try it at the moment - last time it did
download 4 items, they were deleted! Yes, I am using the latest versions!
Reply: BUG fixed in 2.06.
4) FTP seems to have gone downhill with the latest versions. With 2.01,
I was impressed with the speed of connection, retrieving directories,
and downloading. Currently, this is much slower, often stalling half
way through getting the directory. BTW, I _am_ using HSmodem7, have tried 6
as well, and now also using SNOW.
Reply: Again DTE lowering will remove errors - bad packets not reported for
FTP
List of possible bugs discovered in ICE_NET so far:
===================================================
- $GET_IP seems to be sensitive to spaces - it wouldn't get my IP address
because I'd missed the space which is sent after the string it watches
for.. Unfortunately Ice_Net won't let you put a trailing space in the
string lines. [Brian Baird: 90:100/113]
Reply: Can you please send your configs again please?
From Colin:
I've had trouble also with the recent versions of ICE NET, which wouldn't
save my configuration, but had to go back to old versions to set up again
after the crash.
Reply: No problems seen here, recommend checking out your hard disk.
List of possible bugs discovered in OASIS2:
===========================================
- Daily Net window does not resize to accomodate the size of the
newsgroup names [ Falcon only ].
- When adding a group of new newsgroups the first group is sometimes not
added into the groups file, or is added with a garbaged description.
- Exporting MIME test to a file results in the header only being exported.
From Boris:
1) When expiring news, it will often (not always, tho') crash with two bombs
after expiring.
Reply: Known problem with memory, presumed fixed in 2.10.
2) I am not POSITIVE, but I suspect that Oasis is slowly trashing my disks!
I keep getting orphan files on the disk where Oasis resides. I have cleaned
them out, run Oasis, and then SOMETIMES there are more! It may be related
to the bombs when it crashes, leaving partial files.
Reply: Recommend clean up hard disk, check FAT with Diamond Edge. Not
responsible for operating system problems.
3) I think it would help if the expire, and mark as read menus came up
with "group" marked as the default. I like to mark with the keyboard, rather
than the mouse, and I am forced to use it to mark the dot each time.
Reply: No, each user has their own preferences, and Phil's rule!
From Colin:
1) I reinstalled the complete package two days ago, since after giving me
errors 22 and 11, Oasis2 overwrote the whole partition!! Since the new
installation, it seems to have run better, still with the above problems, but
not as often, and has also locked up with an error 65.
Reply: Error 22 is file already open, 11 is not GFA basiC 3 program, suggest
hard disk errors,
