Official Announcement Follows:
* BEBOX DEMO *
Greetings --
Be, Inc. is coming to Austin, Texas for two meetings to
show off their new computer, the BeBox. It is a multiprocessor
PowerPC running a new operating system which has an integrated
GUI (Mac-like) as well as modern operating system features such
as virtual memory and multi-threading (Unix-like). If you have
not heard about the machine, or if you want more information,
check out http://www.be.com/ for pretty thorough descriptions
of the hardware as well as the software.
* BE DEMONSTRATES THE BE OS FOR POWERMAC *
In Austin Be will demonstrate the Be Operating System (BeOS) running
on PowerPC-based Macintosh(r) personal computers built by Power
Computing, Inc.
The BeOS brings to the PowerMac platform a true, preemptive
multitasking, multithreaded software system; offering
protected memory, true virtual memory, and an application
architecture based on shared libraries and modular code. The
system's API is object-oriented, an approach to software development
that helps speed the addition of new application capabilities. The BeOS
leverages the latest in graphical user interface concepts to produce an
operating system that is both powerful, and simple to use.
There will be two meetings, both located on the campus of the University of
Texas at Austin..
The times and places:
Wednesday evening, October 2, 1996 at 7:00pm at Taylor Hall 2.106
Thursday evening, October 3, 1996 at 7:00pm at Taylor Hall 2.106
Be, Inc., will be sending two people to show off the BeBox and talk
about future plans. The demo will show the brand new Be
OS which is a multi-processing, multi-threaded, object-oriented operating
system running on a BeBox with two 133Mhz PowerPC 603 processors. The
operating system was designed from the ground up to show what can be done
with a fresh approach to operating system design on low-cost
multi-processor hardware. A number of demo applications will be shown which
demonstrate the features of the operatingsystem and the hardware.
