Hello all,

We are facing problems with configuration of SMTP mail on CYBER
180/840 running NOS/VE L765 ver 1.5.3. I wonder if you can help
us out.

We are facing problems in transfering mails from CYBER via SMTP. We want
to configure such that it will dump all the mails to our main mail machine
(Sun Sparc 1+ running SunOS 4.1.1). It should not contact directly the
destination node.

1. We start the SMTP service using the following cmd:
   
	activate_smtp jc=m dm=true dd=144.16.96.2

   According to our understanding, the MAIL/VE gateway should send mail
   to 144.16.96.2 in case it cant resolve some address. Is this assumption
   correct ?

2. Is it absolutely necessary to have domain name resolver ? We tried but
   could not setup the resolver.

3. The logfile for the SMTP transactions are created only when the process
   is terminated. Is there any other way of dynamically finding out the
   current status of the SMTP process ?

From SUN side, we have successfully sent mails to cyber via SMTP.

From MAIL/VE , when we send messages it says the message is processed. But
the message does not reach the recipient. Instead, we get back the message
saying it was not possible to deliver the message.

I am attaching the bounced mail msg and the SMTP_JOB_LOG.
The SMTP_JOB_LOG says that the application is unknown to NAM/VE. Which
application is not validated ? Is it smtp_server or smtp_client ? How to 
validate the application with NAM/VE ? 

Please help us identify the problem. Please send me mail as our newsfeed
is not reliable.
