gcc on the convex

We had extreme difficulties here trying to get gcc to compile for the
convex. We are running the convex in IEEE mode rather than in native
mode, and gcc did not want to link. The people doing the port gave up
after a couple of days of frustration, and now we are using the ATT c++
compiler (which I don't like). We have a C2MP.

Has anybody successfully compiled gcc and g++ for the convex with the
convex in IEEE mode?
