I have some DEC Scholar DF224 Modems which DEC has donated to a local
school.  Some of them work normally... they auto-dial with the control
sequence ^A^BT<phone-number>^M as expected.  Others return 'Ready'
upon ^A^B and do not go off-hook, but can still be used if I manually
dial with a desk-telephone.  I have no documentation on these modems.

Can someone tell me if the non-dialing modems are in some kind of
'maintenance mode' or other state, and how to return them to normal
operation?  Or are they just malfunctioning?

The modems which return 'Ready' display stored phone numbers if I type
^A^B<any-letter-from-A-to-O>.
