Graphics modes on the Rainbow

To whom can ever help me,

I have a very technical question about the graphics on the Rainbow.
First, I realize how to put the RB 100 A/B/+ into graphics mode, etc.
because I have the technical docs, but I could not seem to find this:

How, once graphics mode is initialized, do you know how it was
initialized? Is there a port or location in screen memory that will
have this information, accurately at all times? Most importantly,
are you in Medium or High Res?

I already know a little about port 0Ah and its bit 2 on video
selection. Ports 50h - 5fh should have some kind of capability such
as I described, but maybe not :-).

I would appreciate a point in any direction. Thanks in advance.
