VAXmate 3.5" floppy drives?

I traded in my trusty Rainbow for a VAXmate last summer, and I'd like
to replace the 5.25" floppy with a 3.5" one. The VAXmate technical
description (EX-PC500-TD-001) has no indication that it's possible. My attempt
to simply replace the drive failed with an error message from the boot ROM.
(I used a Toshiba drive, and I think it was strapped to 1.44MB only, not
dual-density. I see from the tech desc that the VAXmate boots with low-density
as the default.)

Has anyone succeeded in performing this swap? What brand 3.5" drive
did you use? Any special tricks to make it work?

	Thanks for any help.
