Subject: HARD DISC
From: DAVID HUGHES

Hi all, I have an ST225. Tried the RB hard disc utility to low level
and format the disc, but I kept getting errors about sector 0 bad.

I took it to an IBM machine and promptly low leveled it, fdisk and
formatted it with a system, and it booted fine.

Could this be a cable or controller problem. Are there jumper
settings or seetings I do not know about to have the BR understand I
am placing a 20 meg on it? I have a 10 meg on it now, but it errors
out after about 2/3rds of the hard disk integrity test.

Thoughts?

Frank, I am using mvdos 3.10b and cb v2.01. I ordered them both from
Suitable Solutions just before they went out of business in the area
of rainbow support. I have yet to figure out what the problem is and
why I get the error message. The programs seem to run, but not exit
properly. Also, with binkley term, I cannot exit to DOS and reenter,
i.e. Control-J followed by 'exit'. It crashes.

Plug 'em in, put 'er back together, and start it up. If the memory
boards are basically OK, you will get a message "New memory size
nnn". You can then select S from the main menu for a quick check,
and run the DEC diagnostic for a lengthy one.

If Caroline doesn't know anything about them, they must be out of
business.   So I guess it will be OK to put the software on this BBS;
it'll be RBW.ZIP, in the MS-DOS file areas.

Many computer vendors DO use 'kilo' and 'k' for 1000 and 'mega' for
one million. The SELECT word processor is one that uses 'k' for 1000,
and that word processor was, and is still, much used!

Well by the time you read this it is past your deadline but anyway
here goes:

The only bbs software I seen running on the RAINBOW is OPUS v1.12
and will use around 5mb of disk space. The minimum disk size should
be 40mb and if you can afford it the DEC RD53 which is a 71mb disk
when formatted on the RAINBOW is around 64mb. One note on the drive

If you have Suitable solutions Code Blue; the regular DBASE III+ for the IBM
world will run with the following command line -

        CB/V/A DBASE.EXE

You will have to use the DO key to toggle 25th line to be displayed.

Subject: RAINBOW SOFTWARE
From: RYAN GRAN

Although I'm a dedicated IBM user, I have a friend who has an older
Rainbow. No idea what the model number is. The basic description is
an amber monitor with 2 built in disk drives. It has a built in
terminal program which she uses for calling local BBSs, etc. I'd like
to get her some REAL software, and specifically, a REAL communications
program. There are no Rainbow BBSs local to me, and I was wondering
what all was out there. I also just obtained a program called
RAIND100.ZIP which supposedly allows me to read/write disks that will
be compatible to the Rainbow. Any help would be appriciated. If you
have a decent supply of Rainbow software (shareware?) [games,
communications, etc], please let me know. I'd be more than willing to
pay for the disks, postage and time to get copies. Thanks in advance.

Is it anticipated that v3.0 will be usable on the non-Turbow Rainbow?

I assume you mean Alt-J to shell out of BT. That works OK on my 'bow
(using BT 2.40).

Do you have a SHELL command in your CONFIG.SYS? Mine is:

             SHELL=E:\DOS\COMMAND.COM E:\DOS /E:62 /P

Subject: RAINBOW HARD DISK CLUSTER
From: JOHN CONNOLLY

Can anyone recommend a program and/or procedure for changing the
cluster size (presently 2k) on a non-system disk partition? I waste
quite a bit of space on *.MSG BBS files that are typically less than
1k.

The system is a 100B with an ST-225, running MS-DOS V3.10.blah.blah.
The partitions are maintained with WUTIL.
