I'm not sure if/how much this will help but...
We had a program called PIP-11 which was written by an Australian Digit (Doug
Tracey or Stracey ?). It could copy PDP8 format dectapes to/from PDP11 format
dectapes running on a PDP8. Hopefully it got into the Decus Library, although
they (DEC OZ) used to sell it originally. I added OS-8 I/O support, but the
sources are long gone now.
It was interesting to watch the program running, because of the different tape
format (PDP11 had interleaved blocks, PDP8 sequential), so the PDP8 tape would
rock-rock-rock to and fro furiously, while the PDP11 tape just calmly zipped
along.
