Actually for a fairly minimal system that sounds about right.  Around
6 months ago I happened to notice that a MicroVAX 2000 with an RD53 disk
drive and 4MB of memory was being sold by one of the DEC 3rd party people
for something like $1200.  A minimally-configured MicroVAX II would sell
for close to the same amount.  You'd want to put a tape or something on
it for backup, though.  The used equipment vendor couldn't have been
buying the 2000 for more than $600-800, if that.  And that vintage of
equipment hasn't been getting any more valuable with the new VAXes that
have been announced this spring and summer.

We won't even discuss the value of a MicroVAX I ... $800 would be a
pretty steep price for one unless it included some really interesting
peripherals ...
