resizing windows on a VT1200

Hello,
We just got a VT1200, and I have a question on resizing the windows.
I've found out that if you set term=xterm and do a resize(1x), vi(1)
will use the full window. However, this seems to work only with ULTRIX 4.0,
not 3.1. Of course I could just run dxterm (or xterm) remotely, but
using VTE is less hassle (and quicker). Any experienced VT1200 (or
even VT1000) users out there that know this? Thanks...
