Finally. 2 RD53's that apparently work. Software problems? No.
                                          Drive / cabling ? No.

Culprit: RQDX3 controller.

Some failure, as yet to be determined, allowed normal RX50 access,
as well as access to drive 0, but not to drive 1.

This might have gone un-noticed for some time, except for the fact
that the flaw moved to drive 0, as well, so I couldn't access either
of the hard drives. I'll be sending it in for repair, at the
modest expense of $199.00, with a 4 month warranty, and upgrade
to the most current revision (F4, I believe.)

With the proper resistors installed (4K ohm, not 1K or 2K!), the
drives format on an RQDX2.

Thanx to everyone who offered help.

(Not mentioning names, particularly Terry Kennedy)
(haven't tried the disk yet, will wait to see if
 repaired board evidences problems!)
