I'm planning the purchase of a VAXstation 4000 model 90. I'm told it already comes with a SCSI bus. I plan to make it the prime compute and disk server for an LAVC (4 satellite nodes). It'll have a RZ25 (426MB) internal disk and a 1.7GB external disk, a CD-ROM reader, and probably a rewritable optical disk drive and a 98-track tape drive, all SCSI devices. Now for the question. Is there any advantage, besides that of having additional device addresses, to adding a second SCSI adapter to the system? Does anyone now of SCSI contention or throughput problems on VS4000 model 60s or other DEC workstations that could be addressed by this? Send mail to me directly; I'll summarize and post results.
