Did you hear the one about the X-terminal and the DECstation 5000/200?

Hi Folks:

Our laboratory is contemplating the purchase of a Digital VXT-2000
color X-terminal display. We currently own a DECstation 5000/200
running Ultrix V4.2A; this machine would be the computational engine
for any display we would purchase. We would GREATLY appreciate any
information or comments/experience with this or other X-terminal
displays connected to a DECstation.

Specifically, what is the feeling about X-terminal displays instead of
a low-end DECstation 5000/20? What about using third party X-terminal
displays with the DECstation? Has anyone done this successfully (or
unsuccessfully)? What sort of increased computational load should we
expect on our DECstation 500/200? Is there compelling reason to
purchase more than the minimum 10MBytes of memory in the Xterminal?
Any and all anecdotes or opinions are welcome!

Please reply email as soon as possible. We will likely be making a
purchase decision by the beginning of next week.

Thanks much for your help.
