	You sure can get it via software - but it's not really likely to
always be unique. If you really want copy protection, you need to use a
dongle or something like that. Of course, everyone will hate you if you
do, and loads of people like myself will refuse to buy your product if
it's copy protected...

PS -
	struct ifdevea hw_addr;

	s = socket (AF_INET, SOCK_DGRAM, 0);
	strcpy (&hw_addr.ifr_name [0], "ln0");
	ioctl(s, SIOCRPHYSADDR, (caddr_t) &hw_addr);

	What gets tricky is figuring ot what device to check. If the machine
has more than one device, do you pick the first? Or do you always use ln0?
Also, some systems allow you to change the apparent ethernet address...
Remember - the kernel is just software.

	It is important to focus on writing software that is "adequate."
Having one's software be "good" or even "excellent" is over-rated. If
"good" were necessary or even important, DOS would not be the de facto
standard operating system. -notebooks of a heretic
