Well, its time for my semi-annual plea for help in reviving my old 730.

Basiclly, the RA80 has a bad block somewhere in the boot process. I get
the "Welcome to VAX/VMS 4.7 ...", and from there, it dies. If I listen
to the disk, it seeks like crazy, which is why I am sure its a bad block.

Now, the hard part comes in fixing it. I only have the console boot tape,
and an RL02 with standalone backup (VMS 4.4 at that), and need some help
in fixing it. I would rather not replace the RA80, for various reasons
(laziness, mostly. Ever replace one of those? its not easy, IMHO). As
a last (and I mean last) recourse, I'll pick up a USA50, Ive seen them for
sale in various places for as little as $100, and an RA81...

Has anyone got any ideas? I really really want to get it working, for
use as a toy mostly. But, as you can see, I am cluless as to what to do.

And if worse comes to worse, I could sell most of it. Its even got an FP730,
which seem to be slightly hard to find. (and as a bonus, a complete 730
spare board set, from the processor cards to memory, and DMF32). So if you
know anyone who would want it, let me know. Of course, they would need to
pick it up.

Many thanx
