I was just on the verge of doing the upgrade myself (from 4.1 to 4.3)
on my DECStation 5000/200.

Now I'm not so sure. Can anyone else (e.g., DEC personnel, if they're
willing to give an honest assessment) confirm/refute this problem
before I retreat and upgrade to 4.2A instead??

I *HATE* upgrading -- it ALWAYS creates more problems than it solves!
But sometimes you gotta just swallow hard and do it, because the new
software version (e.g, DEC GKS3D v1.2), the one with the critical bug
fix you desperately need (and presumably some new, even more critical
bugs thrown in for good measure), requires the new version of the OS.

If new cars were engineered as sloppily as most new software, car
manufacturers would go to jail.
