SLIP on DEC2100/Ultrix3.1 anyone?

Hi All,

I've been trying to get SLIP working on a DEC2100, running Ultrix3.1.
I managed to link a kernel with the unsupported SLIP-driver
(/usr/sys/b.mips/BINARY/if_sl.o) and rebooted. I ftp'd slattach.c and compiled.
If I understand things correctly, I first have to run
	slattach /dev/tty01 9600
which opens the device, initializes it and keeps it open, and after that
	/etc/ifconfig sl0 `hostname` pc up
pc is the hostname of a pc that is at the other end of the RS232 line. It
has an entry in /etc/hosts. /etc/hosts is refered to, since on the DEC no
DNS is running. The DEC isn't connected to ethernet and se0 is not
configured up. The loopback interface lo0 is configured up.
Both slattach and /etc/ifconfig report no errors.
	netstat -r
says that a route exists from the DEC to pc.
When I enter
	ping pc
The command
	netstat -I sl0 1
shows that twentyone packets are being transmitted before ping says: no answer.
On the pc the MSDOS program NOS.EXE is running, configured for SLIP (9600bd).
It records twice as much packets received as on the DEC are transmitted,
without sending any packets back. If I analyse those received packets, it
seems that the 8th bit is always cleared. This led me to the conclusion that
the serial port (tty01) on the DEC clears the 8th bit or transmits only seven
bits, so that for example a network address of 192.1.1 is truncated to 64.1.1.
I tried to change the tty-settings of the port but didn't succeed.

Any clues? Please reply via email.

Regards, John-Paul
