Has anybody been able to twiddle the dc0 serial ports (tty00,01)
to run faster than 9600 Baud under ULTRIX on the DECstation 3100?
Or is it possible to add a faster serial port without upgrading the
whole sytem unit to a model 5000?
According to DEC HW support, the ports can do 19,200 _if_ software requests,
but the ROM is said to only know about speed settings up to 9600.
According to DEC SW support, ULTRIX 4.2a won't set these ports above 9600.
Tests confirm a limit of 9600 with stty and ioctl (under ULTRIX)
and "setenv baud2" (at boot time).
Is there any way to talk directly to dc0, setting its port speed
(bypassing the ROM)?
Or is there a non-DEC serial adapter that could be added?
DEC support doesn't cover these...
For running SL/IP on a V.42bis modem, a serial line faster than 9600
would certainly be useful (if the device driver can keep up).
Please reply by email; I'll post a summary.
