How to use backing store with DecWindows?

I've got an application program written with UIL that displays a complex
data plot which takes several seconds to render. Problem is, whenever
another window overlaps the code is set to handle the exposure event
by redrawing the entire image again. I know that backing store can be
used to prevent this, but I can't seem to figure out how to do it with
the UIL interface. Can anyone help or does anyone know of an example
of using backing store and UIL together?
