How does a 730 boot BSD unix?

Greetings, DECies. I recently inherited an 11/730 (System 2) and was told
that last time they turned it on (over a year ago) it was running BSD4.3
Unix. After fixing the power supply I tried to get it to boot.

Now I'm a VMS type person and have been operating a 730 SSB for about 8 years
so I am familiar with what the boot sequence looks like for VMS. Near as I
can tell the default boot sequence that came on the TU58 looks like the
standard VMS one. Microcode first gets loaded and then DEFBOO or one of the
other *BOO files is used to set the appropriate registers, load VMB, and
then launch the CPU on its merry way. Trouble is that when it tries to read
the R80 I get back the error message "BOOT file not found" or something like
that and end up back in the console monitor again. The system will boot
VMS 3.7 from an old RL02 pack I've had lying around and I know I am specifing
the correct device to boot from (>>>B DQ0). Everything including the R80
pass diagnostics. When I boot VMS I can mount the R80 foreign and dump data
from the disk.

So, the way I figure I a) either have the wrong boot tape for BSD4.3, b) am
missing something that is done to boot BSD4.3, or c) have a corrupted system
disk. Any pointers out there on what the boot sequence looks like for 730
running BSD? I would be happy to receive replies either posted to this news
group or by mail. If someone asks I would be happy to summarize. Thanx in
advance.
