Looking for micro software to "interface" with VMS

Forgive me if this is the improper place to ask this question, but a search
of the local news system turned up few groups that seemed connected to Vax
questions. Any help at finding a group which discusses Vax "connectivity"
issues would also be welcome.

I teach Writing at the New York Institute of Technology. Some of the
courses I teach are Vax-mediated Distance-Learning courses. We're currently
revamping our local network and contemplating trashing or antiquated LANs and
instead connecting to our Archaic 750s. As a member of our school's
Computer-Literacy committee and a regular user of Vaxen for the last 8
years, I've been asked to investigate software for our micros.

We're looking for IBM-PC (Windows or Gem), Mac, Amiga, and Atari ST
"front-ends" for micros connected (usually through dial-up lines) to Vaxen
(running VMS 5.2). The users will be running the CoSy computer
conferencing system, MAIL, and All-in-One. We would like to have
intelligent vt100 or vt200 emulation. (All-in-One users may choose only
EDT or WPS as their editors and CoSy users only a kluncky line editor or
EDT.) Some of the users will connect long distance over toll-free lines
(through the Cable & Wireless Company).

We would like the software able to process some of the i/o locally
"packaging" it for the Vax before sending it along (e.g. the micro software
might format mailer commands and allow the user to select addressees from a
list stored on the micro). Because we wish to use the software both in
distance education, collaborative writing, and for teacher conferencing,
we'd like to be able to do some real-time group editing (something similar
to vax-phone but a bit more user friendly and configurable).

While I've written a front-end for some Vax programs such as Vax-Mail and
done a little C programming on the Vax. This type of interface is beyond
my English-teacher background. Surely someone has designed it. Any help
or direction that I get would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
